ADEP CONDEMNS THE CONFIRMATION OF BRETT KAVANAUGH; STANDS WITH SURVIVORS
Washington, DC: On October 1991, Professor Anita Hill testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee about the sexual harassment she faced at the hands of then-nominee Clarence Thomas. Her testimony was dismissed and Clarence Thomas was confirmed. We believe Professor Anita Hill. We believe Dr. Christine Ford. The Afghan Diaspora for Equality and Progress stands with survivors. We watched in disgust at the naked, virulent white male entitlement on display during Brett Kavanaugh’s testimony. His was the seething anger of privilege that will broker no challenge, especially from women. Republicans are determined to preserve the cultural privilege and social hierarchy that cushions the lives of the elite beyond the scrutiny of truth and beyond the reckoning of accountability.
With the expected confirmation of Brett Kavanaugh, we are reminded that law and order for rich white men in America manifests a law that shields them while shackling minorities. This is what they mean when they say they want to “Make America Great Again.” We stand with women, with the oppressed, the survivors, and the deliberately silenced. Republicans have secured the Supreme Court, but we remain committed to the principles of equity and progress in our activism. The fight goes on. The fight never ends.
