Qatra Session 2: What’s Race Got to Do with It?

Race, racism, prejudice. These words fill our newsfeeds, but what do they mean and how do we unpack their consequences? Is race biological or a social construct? This session will offer a brief history of the social and legal construction of race and help broaden what we mean when we use the term. Race and racism helps capture the experience of many groups, including Black, Indigenous, Latinx and Muslim Americans. Knowledge is power. This interactive session will help us consider how to broaden our conceptualization of race as we discuss lenses like critical race theory as an important tool in movement building, and understand what these conversations mean for Afghan-Americans especially.
Join ADEP on August 12 for the second installment of our Qatra Sessions! The Qatra Sessions are workshop webinars that cover a range of social justice issues, and will culminate in a Leadership Retreat devoted to engaging mobilizing community members around the issues we are discussing.
Be sure to tune in and see Ridhwan and Nura Sediqe discuss the issues at hand, how they have arisen, and the overarching connections between the plights and injustice that are disproportionately affecting marginalized communities in the United States.
